Humane Society Legislative Fund endorses Dave Min for election

WASHINGTON (September 23, 2024) – Today, the Humane Society Legislative Fund, the nation’s leading animal protection political organization, announced its endorsement of Dave Min for election to California’s 47th Congressional District.

“Dave Min fought to protect animals from his seat in the California State Senate,” said Sara Amundson, president of the Humane Society Legislative Fund. “He can continue that crucial work at the federal level if voters make the humane choice at the ballot box. We urge Californians in the 47th District to send Dave Min to Congress this November.”

As a state legislator, Dave Min supported a number of animal protection bills. In fact, he earned an impressive score of 100% on HSLF’s 2023 California Humane Scorecard due to his work on a range of animal issues.

During his time in the California State Senate, Dave Min took the following pro-animal actions:

  • Supported AB 357 (2023), a bill prohibiting certain manufacturers and contract testing facilities in California from using traditional animal test methods when an alternative method exists. This bill also requires reporting of alternative test and animal test usage to the Department of Public Health.
  • Supported SB 1215 (2023), a bill known as the PAWS Act. The PAWS Act would have established the Pet Assistance with Support (PAWS) Program to award grants to homeless shelter and domestic violence shelters for food and basic veterinary services for pets owned by individuals experiencing homelessness or escaping domestic violence.
  • Supported AB 1399 (2023), a bill increasing veterinary access by allowing California-licensed veterinarians to establish new veterinarian-client-patient-relationships through electronic means.
  • Supported SB 669 (2023), a bill empowering veterinarians to delegate a limited number of their du es that specifically relate to controlling disease and parasites in pets and reducing public health risks to registered veterinarian technicians (RVTs).
  • Supported AB 781 (2023), a bill requiring local governments to designate pet-friendly sheltering sites so families have a safe and comfortable place to go during extreme weather events.

Min has pledged to support important federal animal welfare issues, including:

  • Supporting the Better Collaboration, Accountability, and Regulatory Enforcement (CARE) for Animals Act (H.R. 5041) to give the U.S. Department of Justice the tools it needs to strengthen enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) and help deter perpetual violators.
  • Supporting the Puppy Protection Act (H.R. 1624), to address serious gaps in welfare standards for tens of thousands of breeding dogs and puppies at large-scale breeding operations licensed by the USDA.
  • Supporting the Humane Cosmetics Act (H.R. 5399) to phase out testing of cosmetics on live animals and sales of animal-tested cosmetics in the U.S.
  • Supporting the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act (H.R. 3475) to prohibit the reopening of horse slaughter plants in the U.S. and the export of American horses to slaughter for human consumption.
  • Supporting the Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act (H.R. 3090) to crack down on “soring,” in which trainers deliberately inflict severe pain on the hooves and legs of Tennessee walking horses.
