WASHINGTON (May 21, 2020)—Today the Humane Society Legislative Fund, the nation’s leading political advocacy organization for animal welfare, released an ad highlighting Steve King’s cruel and unhinged tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives.
"Steve King has conspicuously failed to serve his constituents,” said Brad Pyle, political director of the Humane Society Legislative Fund. "Iowans should reject Steve King once and for all, not merely in their own best interests but for the good of the nation.”
King has become an ever more marginal figure in American politics. Last year, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution of disapproval responding to remarks in which King questioned the offensiveness of white supremacy and white nationalism. More pointedly, the House Republican Steering Committee unanimously voted to exclude King from any positions on House committees in the 116th Congress, kicking him off the Agriculture, Judiciary, and Small Business committees.
The HSLF advertisement highlights King’s position as a genuine outlier when it comes to animal welfare. King voted against dozens of bipartisan bills to protect animals.
