Humane Society Legislative Fund responds to dogfighting arrest of Pentagon Official

WASHINGTON (October 3, 2023)— Today, following news that a senior Pentagon official was "arrested and charged with participating in a dogfighting ring in the D.C. area for more than 20 years,” Humane Society Legislative Fund President Sara Amundson released the following statement:

“We commend the Office of the US Attorney for Maryland, the FBI, U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Defense for their close collaboration in investigating the participation of a senior-level federal employee in a dogfighting operation. Animal fighting is not a trivial crime and invites a myriad of other felony-level crimes; it’s a moral and social scourge that continues to plague American society and no one should be immune from prosecution.

“We’ve long supported legislation and other means to strengthen cross-governmental approaches to investigation, charging and prosecution as an effective means to challenge cruelty and protect animals.”
